NBPDCL vs SBPDCL: District Coverage
Bihar's electricity distribution is divided into two state DISCOMs:
- NBPDCL (North Bihar): Serves 21 northern districts including Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Purnia, Begusarai, Katihar, Saharsa, and Champaran.
- SBPDCL (South Bihar): Serves 17 southern districts including Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, and Munger.
Transformer Feasibility Limit
Under BERC (Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission) guidelines, cumulative rooftop solar capacity connected to a local distribution transformer must not exceed the allowed threshold (typically 80% of transformer rating). Applying early secures your transformer feeder capacity.
Matching Sanctioned Load with Solar Capacity
Your installed solar capacity generally cannot exceed your connected/sanctioned load. If your current sanctioned load is 2 kW and you wish to install a 3 kW or 5 kW solar system, you must apply for a simple load enhancement through the Suvidha App or National Portal.
Bi-Directional Meter Testing & Sealing
The DISCOM testing lab verifies the accuracy of the bi-directional meter before field installation and applies tamper-evident security seals.
